The Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuliaty has a Grants-in-Aid program that provides up to $1,000 per grant to support scientific sexuality research in areas not likely to receive support from other sources. The money may be used for either a small project that can be completed with the help of the grant or as part of a larger study that might ultimately be funded from other sources. Funds may be used for any purpose relevant to the conducting of the research. Funds will not be provided for travel to conventions, stipends for principal investigators, manuscript preparation, student class projects, or student research related to the thesis or dissertation. Grants do not cover indirect costs.
FSSS especially encourages proposals involving:
·
uniquely timely research opportunities;
·
new investigators;
·
volunteer research teams;
·
actual, not pilot projects.
The Grants-in-Aid program is open to all professionals conducting research on human sexuality. Proposals may be submitted at any time during the year. Normally, grants will be made in May and November when our Board of Directors meets. Proposals that are timely or event-oriented may be supported at other times, pending approval by our granting committee and our Board of Directors.
Interested researchers should go to our Instructions for preparing an application.
The purpose of this specialized endowment fund is to support research that uses quantitative techniques to evaluate propositions and theories designed to explain variations in sexuality. More specifically, the fund will be used to support research addressing the causes of variations in sexual behaviors, desires, attitudes, etc. A preference will be given to researchers conducting research outside of the United States and Western Europe, but grants from the fund can be made to any qualified applicant. Initially, the grants will be funded at a maximum of $1,000. The grants will be administered by the “Grants-in-Aid” program of the Foundation.
The purpose of the research can be a master's thesis or doctoral dissertation, but this is not a requirement. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree-granting program and a member (student) of SSSS. Application instructions and forms are found at http://sexscience.org/awards
Deadlines For Submission of Applications are:
February 1 of each year (The Spring award is issued in May)
